Austin Grossman (Writer Of Trespasser) On The John Hammond Memoir
Wow. Simply wow. In late May, I created a presentation of all the John Hammond lines from the game into an audio book-like presentation called JURASSIC TIME. It had a lot of praise and positive response that I appreciate greatly. However, it is one thing to please the fans. It’s another thing to please the man who actually wrote the script for Trespasser himself: Austin Grossman. That’s right, ladies and gents, I contacted Mr. Grossman himself and let him know of my little project I did. Here is what he thinks of it:
Thank you so much for this! I really have had no access to this audio for a number of years, outside the game. I had the script, but no good archive of Richard Attenborough’s masterful performance – it’s so terrific to have it back again. And to know at least one person out there really followed it and enjoyed it.
Of the writing I’ve done in games, it’s definitely the thing I’m most proud of, and it’s been a touchstone for many years – something I’d go back to remind myself of, the kind of thing I wanted to accomplish in games, or anywhere, as a writer.
It was a fun coincidence to get your email this week because my first novel just came out a few days ago, and I modeled the main character and a lot of the style on the Hammond memoir, trying to get that effect into prose in a longer form. If you’re curious, the novel is called Soon I Will Be Invincible, and concerns a supervillain who has, yes, a hidden island…
Thanks again for rescuing this Lost World.
Regards,
Austin
